When the time came for bicycle company SRAM to build a new office, they wanted a place that reflected their culture. So to start off, they put in an eighth-of-a-mile indoor bike lane!

The Chicago-based company moved into a 1920s cold storage facility and turned it into a cyclist’s dream office. The 72,000-square-foot HQ features 200 bike racks, a bike-washing station, and a locker room with showers.

All 150 employees also enjoy an open-air floor plan, a massive pantry, an outdoor deck, and a café.

As for materials, architecture firm Perkins+Will put in quaint details like bicycle grip tape on the door handles.

The indoor biking lane – patterned after the ones seen throughout Chicago – was made to promote healthy living, as well as serve as a testing facility for new equipment.

‘For what we do, the lifestyle of bikes is important and celebrating bikes is important’, said Dave Zimberoff, VP of Marketing at SRAM. ‘Our personnel is motivated by fitness so we fly that flag very loud and proud. There’s no mistaking that we’re in the bike business when you walk in the door’.

So where do I send my CV?
