London Fog: Breathe a Cloud of Vaporized Cocktails At This New Bar

Alcoholic Architecture, the London bar where you breath in your booze

Eerily located on the site of an ancient monastery next to the UK’s oldest gothic cathedral is Alcoholic Architecture, one of London’s most unusual new bars where patrons can drink in the atmosphere, literally. Instead of a bartender slinging drinks, powerful humidifiers pump out a cloud of breathable cocktail composed of a 1 to 3 ratio of fine spirits to mixers. With the room humidity at 140 percent, patrons, clad in ponchos, absorb the alcohol through their lungs and even their eyes.

Patrons are limited to a 50-minute session inside the cloud, at which time they will have absorbed the equivalent of a large gin and tonic. Though there’s also a section of the bar which features “conventionally served” drinks for those who want to stay longer. The drinks list is inspired by the monastery’s history and is made up of spirits and beers created by monks: Chartreuse, Benedictine and Trappist beer. Bompas & Parr, the creative studio behind the experience has thoroughly researched every aspect for safety. “We’ve spent five years and about £30,000 working out how to do this properly, with all the correct health and safety precautions,”co-founder Sam Bompas said in an interview with the Telegraph. “We want to make sure people breathe in the cocktail safely and responsibly, so worked with a respiratory scientist specializing in extreme environment medical research – space, deep sea diving, mountaineering – to calculate the rate at which people absorb alcohol through their lungs… and, to a lesser extent, their eyeballs.”
