The Portugal-based firm Casas Em Movimento recently designed a shape-shifting home that follows the sun throughout the day in order to combat one of the main design flaws associated with fixed solar panels.
One of the problems with fixed solar panels is that they can only soak up maximum amounts of sunlight when positioned directly under the sun. However, because the earth is constantly rotating, these panels are inefficient for large portions of the day. Casas Em Movimento has solved this issue by creating a shape-shifting home that rotates as the sun moves. This is possible through the use of five stacked floors that rotate separately to adapt to exterior conditions. The unique design allows the home to produce a five times more energy than it uses, making it a revolutionary example of eco-friendly architecture.
