Monk mackenzie architects has designed the ‘queenstown house’, a linear dwelling planned for the remote new zealand landscape. the six bedroom dwelling for a private client was designed to sit securely in the terrain and bridge a seasonal flood zone. the residence appears to hover over the ground like a bridge, blending into its setting and exposing itself to the extraordinary views that surround it. the house was recently honored at the world architecture festival 2017, the largest, annual, international, live architectural event.

world architecture festival judges selected the ‘queenstown house’ ahead of seven other projects in the ‘house – future projects’ category, praising its ‘bold gesture’ and intimate relationship with the landscape. while the house has yet to be completed, the evocative renderings reveal a thoughtful design that integrates the residents within the landscape year-round, in snow or sunshine.
