SINGAPORE: Prepare for a whole new view of flying.

A teardrop shaped window canopy could soon off offer air passengers unrivalled mid-flights views.

The design of the SkyDeck shows a glass viewing bubble protruding from the roof of the aircraft. The company behind the design prototype said it could be manufactured for wide bodied aircraft to small executive jets.

An in-built lift or flight of stairs would be installed in the plane, elevating one or two people to a “semi-external” position towards the rear of the aircraft. A “pay-per-view” system could be put in place for passengers.

The concept was inspired by a desire to reduce the boredom of flights, and enhance the stale nature of in-flight entertainment, according to Windspeed Technologies LLC.

The company said the canopy would be high strength, made from materials similar to that used in fighter jets. The glass could handle bird strikes and will come with UV-protection coating.

A video of the Skydeck shows the canopy rotating to give passengers a different perspective as the plane flies.

Windspeed, a privately owned business based in the United States, is understood to be seeking investors for the project, and is in talks with a manufacturer who could turn the design into reality.
