Is this Super High-tech Class the Future of Workouts?

The 45-minute, high-intensity, circuit-based AG6 class.

Forget heart rate monitors and torq board—group fitness classes are about to up the ante and get seriously high-tech. Prama by Pavigym—which uses LED lights and technology to measure your workout and create a wildly immersive experience—is already a big deal in Europe, and now it’s making its way stateside, starting with New York City fitness club Asphalt Green. The 45-minute, high-intensity, circuit-based AG6 class will utilize pressure-sensitive floors and walls and integrated LED lighting and sound to create a custom, responsive workout. (So when you throw that medicine ball against the target on the wall, it’ll tell you just how hard you’re throwing it.)

But in spite of all the tech-iness, these workouts look less like plugged-in science classes and more like totally fun Tone-House-meets-Dance-Dance-Revolution parties—and they claim to hit every muscle group and burn up to 1,000 calories per session.

The super high-tech experience kicks off April 19 at Asphalt Green in NYC. (And it’s not just for Asphalt Green members: it’s a fee-based class open to all.)
