What seemed like something hotel guests can only dream of has now become a reality. Aloft Hotels now offers the world’s first voice-activated hotel rooms with the help of Apple’s Homekit and Siri. Just say the word and these apps will take care of the rest.
There’s no need to get out of bed just so you can switch off the light. After all, you’re in a comfortable position and ready for bedtime. How many times can we actually say that before? Zero. But now that Aloft has launched “Project: Jetson,” a voice-activated room is no longer just in the imagination. It’s the real deal.
Aside from switching the lights on and off, this room feature can also help guests switch on/off the TV, play songs and even stream videos online. For Aloft, it’s all about customer experience. Eric Marlo, Aloft’s global brand manager told Fast Company:
“We’re always thinking about ways to integrate technology into the guest experience. This seemed like an obvious one. How many times have you come out of a hot shower at your hotel and felt super cold? Now you can adjust the AC just by saying, ‘Hey Siri.’”
And with the company’s commitment to customer service, it made sure that setting up the voice-activation feature was a breeze. Upon entering the room, guests immediately receive instructions on how to set up the feature through the TV screen. Siri will take around two minutes to recognize the voice and once it does, you’re good to go.
If you don’t feel like personalizing every single thing in the room, you can just load the preset room moods. Tell Siri “relax” for the room to appear warmer and cozier, “revive” if you want the lights to slowly turn on in the morning, or “reset” when you want to activate the default light setting. Moreover, just tell Siri the artist or song you want to play and she will do it in an instant.
“Project: Jetson” will continue for a few months as Aloft gathers feedback from its guests and customers. If the feedback is good, the project will continue and will be used throughout the Aloft hotel network. For Aloft, this is just one step away from providing a completely futuristic experience for guests.
